Alexander Hislop61 woodcut illustrations from Nineveh, Babylon, Egypt, Pompeii, etc.Hardcover, English text, very good condition.Rare and hard to find.\"The Two Babylons\" by Alexander Hislop argues that the Roman Catholic Church is a continuation of the ancient Babylonian religion, specifically the worship of Nimrod and his wife Semiramis. Hislop claims that many Catholic rituals, symbols, and doctrines are derived from Babylonian paganism, disguised under Christian names. He suggests this was a deliberate attempt by figures like Constantine to merge pagan beliefs with Christianity for political gain. Hislop identifies Nimrod, the hunter from the Book of Genesis, and his wife Semiramis as the central figures in this pagan system. He draws parallels between Babylonian deities and Catholic figures, such as Isis with Mary, and argues that many Catholic rituals are rooted in Babylonian practices.
